James, 61, of Columbus, Died Monday August 3, 1998 at Doctors Hospital. Graveside services will be held 11:00a.m. Thursday, August 6 in Parkhill Cemetery, according to Striffler Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. Mrs. James was born October 14, 1936 in Columbus, daughter of Fred L. and Johnnie Givens Smith. She was a lifelong resident of Columbus and a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Columbus. She retired in 1996 form Dolly Madison after more than 25 years of service. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Diane and Don Veasey of Phenix City; her grandchildren, Kimberly Simonds of Columbus, Kevin Veasey of Phenix City; a great- granddaughter, Kyla Marie Simonds of Columbus: aunts, uncles and cousins. James, 69, of 7143 Whitesville Road, Columbus, died Wednesday at St. Francis Hospital. the funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary's Macon Road Chapel with burial in Parkhill Cemetery. Mr. James was born Sept. 5, 1920, in Columbus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur P. James. A lifelong resident of Columbus, he was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou; six daughters, Ethel Stephens and Connie Jones, both of Columbus, Toni Thompson of St. Petersburg, Fla., Bobbie Vangifier of Pembroke, Ga., Betty Campbell of Watkinsville, Ga., and Peggy Veasey of Phenix City; a son, Garrison James, Jr. of St Petersburg; a brother, John W. Harris of Concord, N.C.; a sister, Muriel Uherek of San Martin, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
