His wife found him in a pool of blood dying. The jugular vein and windpipe were both served and death soon came. Mathews had been in ill health and despondent. -------------------------- Friends and relatives at Howard and Butler, where Mr. Mathews was reared and educated, were grieved and shocked to learn of his rash act. Funeral and interment took place at Howard yesterday afternoon. Mr. Mathews was about 44 years of age and is survived by his wife and one married daughter.
