Shocking Tragedy At Columbus Friday

Danie Guinn, the ten year old son of Mr. and Mrs. I.F. Guinn accidentally shot 
and instantly killed himself with a double barrel shot gun at 11:35 o’clock 
Friday morning at Mineral Springs, on North Highlands.

Young Guinn, in company with his 17 year old brother Jeter Guinn, left their 
home on Upper Fourth Avenue this morning early on a hunting expedition and 
after hunting awhile came to Mineral Springs where the elder Guinn boy decided 
to get a drink of water.  Jeter Guinn handed the younger boy the shotgun to 
hold while he stooped down to drink the water and just as he bent over the 
spring he heard a shot fired and looking around at once saw his young brother 
fall on a rock on which he had been standing.

The elder Guinn began calling for help and soon attracted the attention of some 
people living in the neighborhood who hastened to the scene and examined the 
wounded boy and found at once that death had been instantaneous.  The entire 
load from the right barrel had entered the heart, tearing a large hole in the 
body on account of the closeness of the gun barrel to the child’s side when the 
weapon was accidentally discharged.






Additional Comments:
Note - The newspaper printed the boy's name as Danie.  I've wondered if this is 
an error and the name should be Daniel or Dannie.  I'm no a researcher of this 
family and don't know the correct name of the individual.
