Wheat, Prominent Columbus Druggist Dead His Death Was Caused by a Pistol Shot Through the Heart Self-Inflicted Columbus, Ga., Dec. 7 – For reasons unknown to his family and friends, Mr. Eley M. Wheat, aged 56, president and manager of the Wheat Drug Company and for many years one of the most prominent and popular citizens of this community died at his home at 602 Broad Street yesterday morning at 8 o’clock, from the effects of a pistol shot in his left breast, self-inflicted. It is said that Mr. Wheat had not been in the best of health for some time past and that he had become considerably nervous same time he continued to look after his business affairs and when one went into his place on Broad Street Mr. Wheat, if it were so he could to so, would greet the visitor in a most cordial and genial manner.
