Wesley Is Victim of Husband’s Oversight Columbus, Ga., Dec. 19 – Mrs. J.W. Wesley, wife of a special agent of the Southern Railway Company, was shot and fatally wounded here today by her husband, who was cleaning an “unloaded” revolver. The railroad officer had fired two bullets from the revolver Saturday night in an effort to halt prowlers in the local Southern yards and today at 1 o’clock was cleaning his pistol in the kitchen while Mrs. Wesley was preparing Sunday dinner. Wesley stated tonight that he was under the impression that all the bullets had been removed. In some manner the safety slipped and the only bullet in the chamber was discharged, striking Mrs. Wesley in the right side of her back. She was rushed to the City Hospital and died 55 minutes later. Two young boys survive their mother. The Wesley’s came to Columbus from Cincinnati last August. Wesley has been with the Southern for fourteen years he states.
