(Jim) Carroll williamcarrollj@bellsouth.net August 24, 2011, 3:35 pm The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer 7-4-1997 Page C8 Marvin Jackson Perkins Marvin Jackson Perkins, 89, of 4220 Sims Street, Columbus, died Wednesday, July 2, 1997 at Azalea Trace Nursing Home in Columbus. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Saturday at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel, with burial in Parkhill Cemetery. Elder Wesley Little and Elder Tim Long will officiate. Pallbearers will be Paul Allen, Ron Frazier, Gregory James, Clay Jarrell, Dayle Jarrell, Kris Perkins, and Mark Tripps. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00pm at the funeral home. Mr. Perkins was born July 19, 1907 in Whigham, Ga., son of William Lafayette and Lavenia Harrison Perkins. A long time educator, he was a school administrator and teacher at the following schools; Whigham School in Grady County, Morgan School in Calhoun County, Richland High in Stewart County, Linwood Elementary and Baker High in Muscogee County, Cusseta High, Marion County High, and Tri County High. He was a member and Deacon of Columbus Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Riner Perkins of Columbus; two daughters, Beverly Jarrell of Winston-Salem, NC and Gwendolyn Frazier of Kennesaw, Ga.; four sons, Tommy Riner Perkins of Phoenix City, Al., Jackson L. Perkins of Bristol, Tn., W. L. Perkins of Columbus, and Deryck Perkins of Tifton, Ga.; a brother, Tommie Perkins of Whigham, Ga.; two sisters, Lois Bowman of Decatur, Ga. and Ella Mae George of Americus, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great- grandchildren.
