James Shaw, (of a lingering disease terminating in dropsy,) on Monday morning, April 7th, 1851, in the 52nd year of his age. He was born in Manchester, England, July 8th 1799; but has been a resident of Georgia for nearly thirty-two years. Capt. Shaw was distinguished among us for his gentle manners, faithful attention to his business, quity to all men, and strict observance of the "Golden Rule." A constant friend, he never forgot a favor, and was ever ready to forgive an injury. He died as far as is known to the writer -- Without an Enemy in the world. He was an affectionate husband, a devoted father, and a kind master -- ruling "his own spirit," as well as his household. And, moreover, he was a Christian -- "the highest style of man." With the fear of God as a principle, he regulated his life by the Word of God; and being strong in the Lord and the power of His might, he rested his whole hope of salvation upon his Savior, Jesus Christ. He found peace in believing, and rejoiced in the hope of a glorious immortality. In view of his calm and peaceful death, we cannot help praying-- "Let me die the death of the righteous, And let my last end be like his!' C. B. K.
