Michael Eugene “Strick” Strickland, 50, of Box Springs, Georgia died Thursday, 
January 10, 2008 at his home.

A graveside funeral service was held Sunday, January 13, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. at 
Brown Springs Cemetery in Box Springs with Reverend Bob Powell and Jackie 
Robinson officiating. The family received friends at Brown Springs Church of 
God from 4 to 5 p.m. prior to the service. 

Mr. Strickland was born May 1, 1957 in Columbus, Georgia to Eugene Talmadge 
and Barbara Barker Strickland. He was preceded in death by his father. He 
served honorably for six years in the United States Navy. He was a retired 
plumber, having worked for G&R Associates. Moving from Columbus, he had lived 
in Box Springs for 19 years where he was a member of Brown Springs Church of 
God.  He loved life, he loved his sons and he was an avid NASCAR fan.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Paula Matthews Strickland; his mother, 
Barbara Barker Strickland of Harris County, Georgia; four sons, Sherman 
Matthew Strickland, Steven Kyle Strickland, both of Box Springs, Shannon 
Douglas Strickland and Michael Eugene Strickland, both of Columbus, Georgia; 
one brother, Glenn Strickland of Columbus; one sister, Patricia Haney of 
Harris County; and a very devoted friend who was like a daughter to him, Amy 
Dunn Hagler of Box Springs. 

Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista was in charge of arrangements, with Tim 
Brown, Dave Cleaver, David McKeel, Allen Richburg, Adam Robinson, Jeremy 
Robinson, Joey Robinson, and Melvin Rogers serving as active pallbearers. 
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Roger Boutwell, Dr. Frank Catrett, Steve 
Catrett, Dr. Emmett Doerr, Attorney Rick Flowers, Jeff Leverett, Steve 
Matlock, Judson Mullican, Tommy Page, Jackie Robinson, Sonny Robinson, Kelvin 
Trice, and David Widgeon.
