Colonel Thomas Was Born in Columbus and Lived There Many Years. Columbus, Ga., April 28- The body of Colonel Grigsby E. Thomas, Jr., whose death occurred at Athens, Ga., yesterday, arrived in Columbus, his old home, this afternoon, and the funeral occurred from the First Presbyterian church, of which he was a prominent member so many years. Rev. K. L. McIver conducted the service. The remains were laid to rest at Linwood cemetery. Colonel Thomas was born in Columbus in 1842, a son of the late Judge G. E. Thomas, who was judge of the Chattahoochee circuit. He shouldered a musket for the confederacy when only 18 years of age, and for four years fought gallantly. He was captain of the City Light Guards after the war. For many years he practiced law in this city, removing to Athens, Ga., only a year or so ago. He held the office of county solicitor, United States commissioner and various other offices here, and was prominent in church and Sunday school circles, being a deacon in the Presbyterian church and at one time vice president of the Georgia Sunday School Association. He was at one time grand dictator of the Georgia Knights of Honor. His death was a great shock to his Columbus friends and produced profound sadness here.
