Thurmond, prominent Columbus dentist, died Sunday morning at 7:30 o'clock at his home, 2621 Jones street, after a short illness. The dentist was born in Forsyth, Monroe county, Georgia, and was graduated from Mercer University, Macon, and the Chicago Dental college. He practiced dentistry in Dawson before coming to Columbus and leaves many friends to mourn his death in both towns. Dr. Thurmond has been active in church work since his early boyhood, having been a secretary of Sunday schools and a member of the board of stewards of his church, both in Dawson and Columbus. Dr. Thurmond is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. L. E. Thomason, of Columbus, and Mrs. L. C. Jaynes, of the Philippine islands; a son, Harris Thurmond, of Columbus; seven brothers, William D. Thurmond, James M. Thurmond, G. Frank Thurmond, of Forsyth, and Dr. Thomas D. Thurmond, of Perry; George L. Thurmond, of Crest, and Dr. Walter J. Thurmond, of Columbus, and six sisters, Mrs. J. T. Means, of Yatesville, Mrs. Emmett Culpepper, of Fort Valley; Mrs. Lucy Bryan, of Moultrie, Mrs. Lee Hawkins, of Barnesville, and Mrs. Ethel B. Thurmond and Vivian Thurmond, of Forsyth. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Rose Hill Methodist church. The Rev. C. W. Curry, pastor, officiated. The remains will be carried Tuesday morning to Dawson for interment. Additional Comments: Dr. Thomas Harrison Thurmond was born 18 March 1853 in Monroe Co., GA, the son of William Harrison Thurmond, Jr. and Amanda Jane (Buff) Thurmond. He married Emily Jordan on 26 June 1895 in Quitman Co., GA. She died in 1905, and sometime thereafter he married Florence.
