Obituary of George Vanable 1841-1876 Muscogee County, GA Transcription of an article appearing in the Southern Christian Advocate, issue of May 16, 1876. Transcribed by William L. Stephenson, Jr. George M. Vanable was born in Randolph county, Georgia, August 16, 1841; and died in Columbus, Georgia, April 8, 1876. He was a member of the Methodist Church at Wesley Chapel and then at Broad street for about nineteen years. He was a faithful steward, classleader, and secretary for the church for many years. All who knew him often testify to the integrity of character, up-right walk and faithfulness to Christianity. He was always at his post, at home, in his work, and in the Church. He had been complaining for some time ; but by the 3rd of January he took his bed. We had hoped at first that he would recover, but alias, we soon saw he must go the way of all the earth. He set his house in order, and said, "I am ready ; I have lived for this end; I am not afraid to die; the will of the Lord be done." He died without a tear or a struggle. He left a wife, two children, the Church, and many friends to mourn his loss. J. V. M.
