They were escorted by Dr. BATTLE, president of Mercer university, and Messrs. Mell [?] NUNNALLY, B. W. HALVENSTON, H. O. LAWSON, J. E. BIVINS, J. E CAIN and Robert RYALS, students at Mercer. The remains were met by a number of friends and the funeral took place from the depot. The services were conducted by Rev. R. H. HARRIS. The pall bearers were Messrs. J. M. ESTES, J. Albert KIRVEN, A. R. WILKERSON, E. A. CARSON, C. E. ESTES and B. F. COLEMAN, Jr. Young WALKER was a student at Mercer university and was in Florida on a trip of business and pleasure combined. He died from the effects of a gunshot wound accidentally received while hunting deer with a young friend.” The “Columbus (GA) Daily Enquirer” newspaper, Wednesday, 28 APR 1886. [Note: Benoni Porter WALKER (29 AUG 1863-25 APR 1886), is buried at Linwood Cemetery, per “Muscogiana,” Vol. 3, Nos. 3 & 4 (Fall, 1992), p. 85. I am not kin to this WALKER family, but am interested in knowing more about J. E.
