WATKINS DIED YESTERDAY Well Known Columbus Citizen Passes Away After Short Illness Yesterday morning at 7:30 0'clock Mr. John W. Watkins a well known plumber passed away at his home. No. 546 Nineteenth Street after an illness of about ten days of kidney disease. The deceased was a devout Christian being a member of the Baptist Church and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He came to Columbus about fifteen years ago, and by his honest and straighforward dealings with his fellow man had won many friends and the news of his death will bring sorrow to many homes in the community in which he lived. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, his membership being in Stewart County lodge of Florida, he never having it transferred from his old home. Mr. Watkins was a Confederate Veteran and served in Captain Moise Company which left this city at the beginning of the struggle. He served throughout the War and was considered a faithful and valuable soldier. Besides his devoted wife he is survived by four children, three sons and one daughter, Messers T. F. Watkins of Columbus, C. H. Watkins who resides eleven miles from the city on the River Road, L. F. Watkins of Columbus who is a member of the police force, and Mrs. Clara Thomas also of Columbus. He is also survived by several grandchildren. The funeral will take place at the residence this morning at 8:30 0'clock and the remains will be taken to Providence Church six miles east of the city where the entombment will take place. The bereaved family have the deepest sympathy of their many friends in the loss they have sustained.
