E. Young Midland, GA, Jan. 26 (Special) William Franklin Whitley, 74, died at his home here Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock. He had been sick for many months and was confined to his bed for more than eleven weeks. Mr. Whitley was born in Russell County, Alabama, but moved to Georgia many years ago and came here from Talbot County in 1914. He was a millwright, wood-workman and a blacksmith by profession, and conducted a shop up until the time he was taken ill. Mr. Whitley was a member of the Baptist Church. He was married in his early manhood and was the father of 13 children, eight of whom survive him. His first wife died several years ago, but he is survived by his widow by a second marriage, Mrs. Mollie Whitley; five sons, John T. Whitley, of Ellerslie; Steven W. Whitley, of Columbus, Edgar L Whitley, of Swainsboro; J. Tim Whitley and Jesse L. Whitley, of Midland; three daughters, Mrs. G. N. Matthews, of Ellaville; Mrs. Theo (C. O.) Moore, of Columbus, and Miss Arrie Whitley,of Midland, one brother, John Whitley of LaGrange and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Moore and Mrs. Sallie Moore, of West Point. The funeral was held from his late residence Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock and was conducted by Rev. C. D. Ray of Midland. The following grandsons served as pallbearers: Jamie, Claude, H. T. and Robert Whitley, Erby Matthews and Lowell Moore. (Note: William F. Whitley is buried in the Russell/Whitley Cemetery at Midland, GA, born Jan. 3, 1853, died Jan. 24)
