Dismantled in 1905, the 90-foot bell tower was erected at the corner of Broad 
and 11th Street in 1882. Its bell was rung daily at 11 o'clock, a civic duty 
provided by the late Carl Schomburg, a prominent jeweler. The bell was rung in 
case of fire, four times for the Fourth Ward, five times for the Fifth Ward, 
etc.
