For historical researchers and those persons interested in a bird's eye view of the structures - domestic, commercial and industrial - .that made up the city at that time, the map is a valuable document. Buildings are shown in remarkable detail and, when compared to old photographs, with notable accuracy. Close study of the panporama has revealed only several exceptions: the Georgia Midland and Gulf Railroad complex in the upper right corner and the six story Garrett and Sons cigar factory apparently were never built to those proportions but were being considered at the time. Cooperation between the owners of the map, the First National Bank, and Litho- Krome Company for color assistance, has made it possible the above reproduction. The Ledger - Enquirer gratefully acknowledges its appreciation to these local businesses. List A. Court House 1st & 2nd Ave. B. Trinity Episcobal Church C. First Presbyterian " D. Special Sesquicentennial IV, Ledger-Enquirer, Sunday, May 7, 1978, pg S-26 * you may not be able to read the list numbers, I had to reduce the scan size of the map(and put into 4 sections) It is hard to find the places on the full page map. This will give an idea of what the downtown area was like in the 1886 time frame.
