From its beginning in 1828 as a planned city on Georgia's western boundary until today when it ranks as the states second largest city, Columbus' growth has reflected the progressive pride which has cata¬pulted Columbus into a new era of progress and community development. By far, the most ambitious project yet is coming closer and closer to being a reality.. . the conver¬sion of the old Columbus Iron Works into a Trade and Convention Center. The Center will seat 1,500 conventioneers and will feature special outdoor thea¬ters and courtyards along the river bank. A visit to the Center will be memorable since many of the brick walls, support timbers, and exposed ceilings will be left intact. Also, overhead trolleys which were used to convey metal products during the 1800's will remain. An ambitious project? Yes! But Columbus' new Convention and Trade Center is a positive, progres¬sive step for a prospering Columbus!
