He came to Georgia around 1870 first living in Woodberry and later at Flat Rock across from the Baptist Church. He was the first Post Master of the Flat Rock Post Office having named the Post Office. James B. Manry has a Post Card with the Flat Rock postal seal on it from James to his son Charlers P. Overby dated 1894 a year before James death in 1895. He was married to Lucy Payne Jelks from Petersburg, VA. Their stones are in the Calhoun lot of Shilo Cemetery on the corner Double Churches and Whitesville Road Columbus, GA.
