He moved to Ga. In the early 1840s and started the Triume Mills at Wynmanville, Upson County, first making cotton thread & yarn, than expanding into cotton weaving. Colonel Swift moved to Columbus in 1865 and in 1867 founded the Muscogee Mills, now which has been in continuous operation by the same family owners and has grown to be one of the largest manufacturers of cotton towels and ticking in the world.
