READ children and their slave inheritances: William T. - man Green and boy Larry Samuel P. - boy Frank John E. - man Landy (20), woman Abby and her children Effa and Jim Harriet R. Zachary, decd. Sarah F. - woman Julia (23) Eliza G.(Glenn) - Izza (18), girl Mary and boy Sam Savannah A. - Orsa (12), man Jack, man Melvin, and boy Robert Eugenia G. (the youngest, over 14 in 1865 when mother died) - girl Mindy READ sons-in-law: Ethan A. Melton - man Alfred (note: Elizabeth M. READ m. Ethan A. Melton in 1846 in Newton Co., GA) William Zachary, widower Charles Y. Crawford grandsons: Thomas H. Zachry - Sidney Charles T. Zachry - man Isham/Ishan Summer 1859 SARAH F. READ her slave property inherited from father- Julia and her son George - sold to William T. READ in 1860. Jane was sold to her mother, Sarah READ. [ note: slave Jane left to Samuel P. READ at the death of their mother. Samuel P. also bought slave boy, George, from William T., his brother.] Heirs: C.T. Zachry, E.A.Melton, W.T. READ, Sarah READ, J.W. READ, Charles Y. Crawford, and S.P. READ. 1862 SAMUEL PARKS READ wife: Caroline Elizabeth Read [she either remarried or died before 1864, as there as an inventory of his estate done, with William T. as administrator] 300 acres in Newton County, GA slave inventory: John (mulatto) - age 6 George - age 11 Frank - age 13 Julia - age 10 Melinda - age 18 Martha - age 16 Catherine - age 26, and "with a child" 1844 JANE REES slaves: Cary - aged 2 years Harriet - aged 9-10 years. Both given to her daughter, MARY McCLUNG, for her life. At her death, Harriet was to go to her granddaughter, Nancy McClung, and Cary was to go to her grandson, William Rees McClung.
