His mule became frightened of the ice, and backed until the rear wheels run over the railing, turning the wagon body bottom side up into the river. Mr. and Mrs. SMITH leaped from the wagon, but the children were thrown into the river. Mr. SMITH soon checked the animal, and then recovered his children, but not until his little girl was almost drowned. Through the kindness of Mrs. Tess STONE they were soon in dry apparel, and with other kindness administered, they were soon very comfortable.
