The alarm was given and CRIDDLE was caught by Mr. W. H. EVANS within two hundred yards of the jail. Mr. W. H. WELLS held up Tom DICKERSON with a shot gun in Mr. I. W. BROWN'S orchard. One of the Sheriff’s fingers was badly hurt, one of his knees sprained and his Sabbath shirt soiled, as one of the Negroes pushed a large water melon rind in his face just as he was in the act of handing in their breakfast. What was left of the broom handle was worn out, over DICKERSON'S head, who by the way is perhaps one of the meanest and most trifling Negroes in Newton County.
