After the roll was called, the subject, “Resolved that the natives had a right to the soil.” was discussed. Mr. Edd STEPHENSON represented the negative as disputant, and Mr. Ray ROGERS the affirmative. On hearing the negative boys speak would think that the white people had a perfect right to take the land from the Indians, and would be almost ready to take vengeance against the savages still living. On hearing the other side he would be made to feel sorry for the Indian. If the Indians had heard the speaking, and could have understood it, they would have wanted to take up the old hatchet anew. Indeed the speeches from Messrs. Ernest LEE, Wilson JARMAN and Ray ROGERS were very good. After a close contest the affirmative won the day. The Society is in flourishing conditions, two having applied for admission last meeting via: Messrs. Burton DAVIS and Edd MAYO. While our Society is flourishing our school is also having a prosperous session, and I have heard that the public will hear from us about June. Prof. Davant is doing a great deal to advance us in our books. RICHARD SPEER.
