     Mr. Editor, I desire to express through your column my heart felt 
gratitude and thanks to those of our citizens, both white and colored, who 
fought so manfully and successfully to save my property from the fiery elements 
on last Sunday morning.
     You were there and know how gallantly those old gray haired men, middle 
aged men, young men and even little boys worked. Some men whom I thought felt 
no kindly interest in me or mine, were foremost in the fight. I extend to them, 
one and all, my most hearty thanks and appreciation. I feel to day that it 
would give me great pleasure to be able to add one single pleasure to the life 
of  any citizen of our town.
