Hon. Edward Heard was called to the chair, and S. W. Hawkins requested to act as secretary. Hon. J. M. Pace, present Mayor, gave a statement of the financial condition of the city which was very encouraging. The outgoing administration will leave about $1,800 in the treasury, with no outstanding indebtedness. Hon. Emmett Womack placed Major Pace in nominating to succeed himself as Mayor. There was no other nominations and he was chosen by a rising vote unanimously. Quite a number of gentlemen were balloted for as Councilmen and the final result showed that the following six were the nominees to wit: Messrs. J. S. Carroll J. T. Cook J. P. Simms T. C. Swann W. R. Ingram R. H. Thompson. These gentlemen have the welfare of the city at heart, are live and progressive, and will discharge their duties well and faithfully. Hon. James G. Lester was nominated to serve on the public school board for a term of six years, and was chosen without opposition by a unanimous vote. He will make a most excellent member of that body. The election came off Monday and all the nominees were elected without any opposition.
