He opened the door when a pistol was thrust in and he seized it. A struggle ensued, in which the pistol was fired the ball wounding SQUIRE in the jaw, and grazing the arm of another Negro who had come to his assistance. As SQUIRE was a very quiet inoffensive Negro, no cause can be assigned for the outrage, unless it was on account of his voting with the Democratic Party. The intruders were disguised, and have not yet been arrested.
