L. F. Stephenson has the finest field of bottom corn to be found in the county. ~Miss Estelle Thompson, a lovely and charming young lady, of Rocky Plains, spent last week with friends in Covington and Oxford. ~Mrs. H. H. Mabry, one of the best ladies in all this land, has been quite busy for several days canning berries and making jelly. ~Mr. John R. Thompson is not only a good farmer, fine ball player, crack wing shot, but now turns out to be the champion marble player of western Newton. ~Mr. W. B. Harvey has evidently recently discovered something very attractive down this way. This reminds up that Mr. Davis Harvey, of Monticello, also spent a day or two of last week in this section. ~Mr. J. S. Chestnut happened to a very serious accident a few days ago. While on his way to the field the animal he was riding became frightened and threw him and in the fall his foot became fastened in the plough gear. He was dragged for some distance before the horse could be stopped. He received painful bruises about the legs and back.
