STEPS BEING TAKEN TO ENLIST INTEREST OF THE PATRIOTIC BOYS. PLENTY OF GOOD MATERIAL AND INTENSE INTEREST. Covington is to have a military unit here. The blood of soldiers of the Revolution, the Mexican War and the War Between the States as well as the late Big Fuss in Europe is simmering under the summer sun and the outcome will be the fomation of a militia company here which for history of achievement, soldierly qualities and ambition will not be surpassed in the Empire State of the South. City Clerk Charlie Cannon, Mr. J. O. Bradshaw and Captain Charles Candler are the moving spirits in the program and the energy and enthusiasm of the gentlemen spell success in any enterprise they may undertake. Covington has a great record in military activity, but since the World War the interest has been latent. Captain Bert Davis of the old Company is in California and Lieutenants L. A. Clark and A. B. Simms have both answered to the Grand Muster Roll. Sergeant W. R. Stillwell, overseas soldier in the World War is also really interested in the movement and you know what happens when Bill becomes interested. It's a go! With a band, a military company, and Covington spirit, things are moving in this burg. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
