HAYS presided with the ease and grace of a chief justice when holding the legal scales on a balance between man and man. ~The Lucy Cobb Institute girls, at Athens, had a lively debate on the Tariff last week. Twelve young ladies advocated low tariff, while eight favored high tariff, among them being Miss CARRIE SOCKWELL, a charming young lady from this county. The “low tariff” debaters carried off the prize. ~Elder J. G. EUBANKS, now of Kentucky, an able Primitive Baptist minister, so well and favorably known in this section, will preach in the Methodist Church at Covington, Friday night, Nov. 27, at 7 o’clock, Providence permitting. Also, at Holly Spring Church Saturday and Sunday at 11 a. m. Everybody cordially invited to attend these services.
