The Georgia Enterprise September 29, 1892
     Through the kindness of Mr. John M. DEARING, we are enabled to give the 
names of eighteen men, good and true, now living in Newton County, who have 
been married fifty years or more, the wife of each being in fair health at this 
time:

     Rev. J. N. BRADSHAW, now in Florida, but we claim him all the same, was 
married May 13, 1840.

Mr. J. A. JOHNSON, April 27, 1837

Major W. L. DAVIS, Nov. 25, 1841

Mr. THOS. CHANNEL, Aug. 17, 1833

Mr. SAUNDERS HYATT, March 1836

Rev. W. R. BRANHAM, Oct. 15, 1840

Mr. N. C. BERRY, March 17, 1840

Mr. L. C. THOMAS, Jan. 26, 1842

Mr. TURNER HORTON, 1833

Mr. JACOB PARKER, Dec. 23, 1834

Mr. ANDERSON OWENS, 1841

Mr. MATT BELAND, Oct. 1840

Mr. ISAAC JOINER, Jan 1842

Esquire SAMUEL CHAFIN married the second time on Oct. 27, 1842.

Mr. THOS. GARNER, 1824. This is the oldest couple in the county, he being 97 
years old and his wife 91. They have been married 68 years.

     The above couples, 16 in number, have 84 living children and grand and 
great-grandchildren that go up into the hundreds.
     There may be other couples in the county who have been married more than 
fifty years, for no healthier section can be found in all this land than right 
here in Newton County.
