He was born August 18, 1801, and in consequence has celebrated every Christmas in this century. He has been a consistent member of the Methodist Church for sixty-seven years and grows stronger in the glorious faith of the Christian religion as his foot-steps draw nearer to eternity. A better man than this old Father in Israel never lived or died. His cheerful conversation and bright face gave us renewed hope and strength and we felt better during his stay and after he left than we did before his welcome presence brought light and sunshine in our humble sanctum. He is yet hale and hearty and enjoys the comforts of a happy home with the devoted companion of his young manhood, who is still to him his “pride, his pleasure and the apple of his eye.” Love of the Master, home and dear ones can, never become lukewarm in the heart of so good and pure a man as Mr. Petty. May his last days be the most joyful of his long useful and well spent life.
