The Enterprise October 11, 1907
     Fred Roseberry, the Negro who was tried at the September term of Newton 
Superior Court and convicted of the murder of Ike Floyd, another negro, at a 
church gathering near Alcova in October 1906, and who was sentenced to hang 
today (Friday), will not be executed, Judge Roan having signed papers for a new 
trial, motion to be held in his court in Atlanta on the first Saturday in 
November.
    A petition was circulated here this week asking life sentence for 
Roseberry, and it is quite likely that the pardoning board will commute his 
sentence to life imprisonment in the penitentiary.
