G. Treadwell, has been quite sick during the past week. ~Mr. Charlie Maddox and family of Rockdale county, spent a day or two of last week with Mr. L. B. Livingston. ~Mrs. Mann, a most excellent lady of Atlanta, visited her daughter, Mr. O. P. McCord, during the past week. ~Miss Mary Longshore has been dangerously ill for a week or two past. Her many friends trust she may soon be restored to health. ~Mr. O. P. McCord continues to gin some cotton occasionally. Some of our farmers have not finished picking yet but are preparing for another crop. Certainly this has been a bad season on the cotton pickers. ~Miss Mattie Boyd one of Salem’s brightest and best young ladies is teaching a flourishing school at South River academy, near Peachstone Shoals. ~Mr. W. T. Watson has been on the sick list for some time past. May he soon be entirely restored to health. ~A very enjoyable singing came off at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Ramsey on Sunday afternoon. Quite a number of young people present. ~Miss Excer Woodruff, a sweet young lady of Cedar Shoals district visited Miss Annie Cowan during the past week. ~Mrs. Sallie Finney has returned to Atlanta after a protracted visit to her mother Mrs. E. B. Hardeman. ~Tax Collector Loyd of Covington was out in this section one day last week. Mr. Loyd is a very popular officer and is always welcome here. ~Miss Annie Cowan, daughter of Mr. J. A. Cowan, visited Kings recently. From Mt. Zion ~Mrs. Mayfield Owens, who has been very sick, but we are glad to say is rapidly recovering. ~Mr. George Bryan is out again, after having had an attack of grip. ~Mrs. Maggie Sockwell, has been very sick, but is better at this writing. ~Mrs. Womack and children were here Saturday and Sunday, visiting relatives and friends. ~Mr. Chambers and Mrs. Mattie Cochran were married in Atlanta, recently, both of Madison. On their return home, they spent several days very pleasantly here, with her mother, Mrs. Nancy Sockwell. ~Mrs. Jennie Mann spent several days with Mr. John Cowan’s family. ~Misses Rosa Sockwell and Cora Rawlins and Prof. L. C. Rawlins visited relatives and friends in Gwinnett, Saturday and Sunday last. ~We had a very pleasant call from Mr. George Webb, of Starrsville. We are always glad to see our friends, so come again. ~Miss Fannie Webb, a popular and cultured young lady, visited her parents at Starrsville last Saturday. From Newborn ~Mrs. L. R. Stanton has returned home after a few days stay with her daughter, Mrs. R. G. Franklin, at Starrsville. ~Miss Gertrude Perry, one of Covington’s beauties, returned home Friday afternoon, after spending a week very pleasantly with her cousin Miss Annie Perry. We are always glad to see you among us, Miss Trudie, and hope you can have better luck next time. ~Mrs. W. W. Childs spent the past week with her sister, Mrs. R. L. Singleton, at Eatonton. ~Miss Alice Adams one of Putnam’s belles, is the guest of her cousin Miss Adrian Harwell. ~Miss Helene Pitts returned home Friday, after spending two weeks very pleasantly with friends and relatives in Covington, Social Circle and Atlanta. “Love found her and brought her home.” ~Mr. J. E. Gay was shaking hands with friends here Sunday, also had a light burning for him Sunday eve until about 11:30. You had better be careful, John, somebody will be presenting you with an oil bill. He returned to Atlanta Monday. ~Mrs. R. Childs spent a few days last week with her daughter, Mrs. J. J. Carter at Social Circle. ~Mr. And Mrs. J. N. Pitts and Miss Mae Childs spent Thursday in Social Circle. ~Miss Nellie Morgan, a very charming and attractive young lady of Greensboro who has been visiting Miss Abigail Stanton the past month, returned home Sunday, much to the regret of her many new friends here. Miss Nell leaves many drooping hearts to mourn her departure, and it seems that her heart was pierced with a “Speer.” ~Mr. F. R. Porter made a flying business trip to Atlanta last, Thursday, returning Friday. ~Miss Maggie Blasengame has been excited to assist Dr. Chestnut in the school here. ~Dr. J. A. Corry, accompanied by Prof. F. A. Chestnut spent Saturday and Sunday with relatives and friends in Greensboro. ~Mrs. Rebecca Terrell, of Dixie is visiting relatives here.
