The Georgia Enterprise March 14, 1889
     The Conyers Solid South, in speaking of the “old mother county,” has this 
to say; “Newton County has at last go on foot a movement in the right 
direction. Hon. O. S. Porter and his associates have petitioned the superior 
court to be made a body politic for the purpose of manufacturing cotton into 
all kinds of goods, besides other kinds of business which is to be in 
connection with it. With Mr. Porter at the head of this corporation, having an 
extensive manufacturing experience, success is assured.” Mr. Porter is one of 
the most industrious, progressive and practical men in this county; he has a 
clear head, a warm heart- is courteous and companionable, and knows no such 
word as “fail.” The Solid South is correct when it says that “with Mr. Porter 
at the head” “success is assured.”
