Mr. Jones was a brave man, and was murdered upon the streets of Covington, by the bloodthirsty villains of Garardy's U. S. troops. He was over 60 years old at the time of his death, and had always conducted himself as a Christian gentlemen. After the war his family, like the whole people of the South, were in an impoverished condition and unable to place upon his grave a marble tombstone. They are not able now. What say the citizens of Covington to raising a subscription sufficient to pay for a handsome monument to adorn the last resting place of the man who acted so nobley in the defense of his town and country? Additional Comments: Presley Jones is buried at Covington City Cemetery.(Newton County, Georgia) Inscription: Presley Jones Born 1804 61 years.
