R. W. Bagby came off in the Covington Methodist church. Every seat in the house was occupied, while the isles, vestibules and front porch were filled with friends and acquaintances who had come to pay a last tribute to this brave and gallant man. Twenty-five or thirty buggies and carriages filled with special friends and loving relatives, accompanied the body from the home, three miles from town, to the church. Elegant floral designs had been sent from Madison, Conyers, Covington and other places. The Confederate Veterans Association of Newton County ordered a very handsome design from Atlanta. Members of Col. Bagby's company and regiment came from various sections of the State to attend the services, while a hundred or more veterans from Newton county were in the line of march to the church and cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dr. R. J. Bigham, of Nashville, and Rev. T. J. Swanson, of this city. An appropriate tribute of respect will be prepared by the Veteran's Association which will be published later.
