Our time has been fully occupied with the investigation of special presentments and bills of indictment. In the meantime, two special Juries have been drawn from our body: hence we have not had sufficient time to give that close attention to public or county business, that in our judgement is needed at present. In fact we are compelled, owing to the press of business of the above character, to leave a great deal unfinished. To the Grand Jury for the second week of this Court we recommend a rigid investigation of the county roads, which we are glad to learn are in unusually good condition in some of the districts of the county; but sorry to have to record that in others they are reported as being in bad order. The subject of building a new Jail for the county has been partially discussed but owing to the press of business we have not been able to arrive at any satisfactory conclusion in this matter. Therefore we respectfully recommend this subject to our successors, hoping they may have more time for its consideration than we have had. We have found it necessary on account of the destitute and distressful condition of three old ladies-- three sisters, Mrs. SINA THOMPSON, HANNAH BISHOP, and ELIZABETH DAWSON in the Town district, to recommend the Ordinary to pay the sum of ten dollars per month in addition to their allowance from the county as paupers. This money to be used for their maintainance and comfort as they are very old and helpless. We are grateful to the Solicitor General for his kind offices during our week of service, also to your Honor for the promptness and ability with which you administer the Law. Respectfully, WILLIAM F.
