In severing my connection with it, words fail me to express the heartfelt pain I experience at the separation from those with whom I have so long been associated in its publication. To its establishment and maintenance, I have devoted the best energies of my life, and whatever it may have lacked in coming up to the expectations of its friends and patrons, so far as I am concerned. I earnestly beg that they attribute it to the frailty of humanity, and not to a want of public interest on my part. Whether I have laid the "pen and stick" by, for all time to come, is a matter for future circumstances alone to determine. In the meantime, I am "open for proposals." Having sold my interest in the paper to my late associates, Messrs. Beebe and Hawkins. I earnestly ask for them a continuance of the very liberal patronage which has heretofore been extended. And to you, kind, generous reader, I bid you, after a weekly salutation for eight long years, an affectionate Farewell! J. W. ANDERSON In the same issue. In parting with Mr. Anderson, we "turn with a sigh that melts to a tear," when we recall the many happy memories that cluster around the eight long years which have past on lightning wings since we first commenced business with him. The changes have been many since that time, yet nothing has transpired which has marred the true and tender friendship that budded and bloomed from constant association. May the stars always brightly shine over his head, and his pathway be thickly strewn with garlands of prosperity through all the coming years of his life. W. L. BEEBE S. W.
