P. Wallace, of Gum Creek district, committed suicide one evening last week. He procured morphine in Covington, made and had his will recorded, returned home, took the fatal drug, dressed himself and proceeded to "shuffle off this mortal coil" in a systematic and business like manner. He was very well off in this world's goods and why he took it into his head to make such a rash exit from earth is something that his many friends cannot explain or understand. For years he was a reader of this paper and we always found him to be an upright, honest man. He was an old bachelor and between 50 and 60 years of age. Owing to our absence from home when Mr. Wallace died we were unable to record his death in the last issue. In all due respect to the memory of our departed friend, we would say that if any one else in the county contemplates suicide they will please do so while we are at our post of duty else a notice of their demise must neccessarily be delayed.
