C. Barnett, of Covington, wife of Mr. W. H. Barnett has brought suit against the Middle Georgia and Atlantic railway through her attorneys Messrs. Hoke Smith and H. C. Peoples, to recover damages for the death of her son. The suit was filed with the clerk of the superior court of Putnam County several days ago. Following the filing of the suit, garnishment proceedings were instituted Friday and a garnishment was served on the Central railroad, which purchased the Middle Georgia and Atlantic the first of the year. This garnishment is intended to reach a portion of the bonds which the Central was to give for the property. Last September, while the line through Eatonton was being operated by the Middle Georgia and Atlantic, W. W. Barnett was employed by them as a coupler. On the morning of the 9th, before daylight, Barnett was trying to uncouple some cars. While he was between the cars the train was backed and before Barnett could get out he was pushed into a deep hold and fell across the rails. The train passed over his body and cut it in pieces. He was 18 years old and his mother brings the suit.
