The Georgia Enterprise
     The people of Covington were in a state of excitement Wednesday morning 
when the wires brought the new that Dr. E. C. Mahoney, was fatally shot, at 
Alexander City, Ala., sometime during the night. It was first reported that he 
was killed; a second telegram that he couldn’t live; but the last one received 
was Wednesday morning stating that he would recover.
     Dr. Mahoney is an oculist, and married Miss Mamie Edwards of this place 
several years ago. Since then he has traveled over the states of Georgia and 
Florida.
     The cause of the shooting is unknown.
