Smith, Deputy Marshal, was not found until Friday last, when a searching party discovered it in a well near Newborn, in Jasper county. He had been shot in the abdomen with a shot gun at short range. The body was wrapped in a quilt, tied with a plow line. The neck was broken, supposed to have been done by being thrown in the well. At the inquest held by the Justice of the district no clue was found as to the perpetrator of the deed and a verdict was so rendered by the jury. It is said that Mr. Smith was not a regularly commissioned officer in the revenue service, but was employed in the capacity of an informer. His murder will be thoroughly investigated by the State and Government officials. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.2 Kb
