Dr. W. W. Evans, of Oxford, received serious injuries on Saturday by having his horse rear up and fall back upon him. Miss Alleen Walker, of Monroe, one of the loveliest and brightest beauties in Georgia, is visiting Miss Nelle Womack. Mr. J. T. Elliott has returned from a six weeks visit to Arkansas, where he went to look after his property interests in that State. Prof. Frank Florence, of Gainseville, formerly Principal of the Covington Male School, spent part of Saturday with friends here. Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Worsham have been blessed with twins- a boy and a girl. The little people made their appearance one day last week. Major and Mrs. Jno. B. Davis, of this city, attended the Silver Wedding of Colonel and Mrs. William A. Hemphill, in Atlanta on Saturday. Misses Maud and Mattie Hines, two charming and cultured beauties from Milledgville, have been on a visit to our city as the guests of Miss Nelle Womack. Congressman Livingston came down Saturday to attend to some court business and to see his family. He was in town Tuesday and appeared to be in the best of health and humor. Hon. O. S. Porter, of Newton county, is one of the commissioners appointed by the Governor to attend the Mexican International Exposition to be held in the city of Mexico, this fall. Mr. C. S. Jarboe, of Morgan county, spent a day or two of last week looking after his business interests in this section. Friend Charles is enjoying fine health and as usual was in the best of humor. Mr. W. H. Evans came near losing his smoke house on Thursday. He was curing some meat and had a fire built on the earthen floor. In putting out the fire friend Evans burned his right hand severely. Hon. O. S. Porter, of Newton County, has been placed upon the State Democratic Executive Committee in place of Hon. John S. Candler resigned, because of being appointed Judge of the Stone Mountain circuit. Rev. R. L. Bell will preach at the Covington Presbyterian church on the 5th Sunday in March. Everybody invited to attend this service, as Brother Bell is a forcible and entertaining pulpit orator. On Thursday evening Miss Nelle Womack gave a most delightful entertainment, complimentiary to Misses Maud and Mattie Hines, of Milledgeville. A number of young ladies and gentlemen were present, and all report a happy time. Refreshments were served in abundance. Mayor Pace, Mayor pro tem Swann and Mr. Jno. F. Henderson went down to Washington Thursday to see a fire extinguisher work. They report that it is an excellent machine and the probability is that the city of Covington may buy one or more of these extinguishers. The price of the large size ones is about $900.00.
