Green shot and killed Mr. Thomas Estes. Both live in Morgan county, near the line of Newton. Rumor says that Mr. Green was getting ready to marry a daughter of Mr. Estes and that the latter was opposed to the union. The lovers had gone to Rev. Mr. Harwell's to get married, where Mr. Estes and his son came upon them, and when the father asked his daughter to come to him, Mr. Green protested, pulled his pistol and shot him dead, and then fired two shots at the son, but failed to hit him. The lovers then hurried away in a buggy and were united in marriage by Esquire Mann, who knew nothing of the bloody work which had been done by the groom on that quiet Sabbath afternoon, only a short distance from his own home. The couple again entered the buggy and up to Tuesday noon no positive information of their whereabouts had been ascertained, although a number of persons have been searching for Mr. Green. Telegrams were sent to many places requesting his arrest. The Estes family offered a reward of $250 for his arrest. At the inquest Monday a verdict for murder was rendered. This tragic death and romantic marriage has created a sensation in Morgan and Newton counties. It is indeed a sad and deplorable affair. It is said Green was near Willard Tuesday, with two pistols and defied arrest when halted, leaving his mule in the road and going into a thicket. It is thought he will soon be caught. His bride is said to be in Baldwin Co. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
