A. CANDLER will speak in Covington on Friday next, May 13, at 11o’clock a. m., in the courthouse. He will address the people on the temperance question, and everybody is cordially invited to come out and hear him. * ANNUAL CELEBRATION At the usual celebration of Newton County Sunday School Association last Friday, at Oxford, all sections of the county was well represented. Rev. Dr. Warren CANDLER delivered the address and it was full of interest from beginning to close. The latter position was against the liquor license system in Newton, and in advocacy of the dispensary plan. At the noon recess we had the pleasure of eating a most excellent dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Cook, and spent a pleasant hour in their entertaining company. In the afternoon the singing contest came off. Gaither’s school won the first prize, $10. Liberty school took the second prize, and Mt. Pleasant the third. The occasion was enjoyed by the large number of persons present, and the program was carried out to the letter.
