N. Bailey and family, of Cave Springs, will make their home in Covington this year. ~Mrs. J. M. Brittain gave her Sabbath school class an elegant supper at her home on Friday evening last. ~Prof. E. W. Tugwell, of Atlanta, will give a series of recitations at Oxford Friday night. ~Judge A. M. Speer, of Madison, one of the grandest old men in Georgia, was here on professional business a few days since. ~We regret to learn that Rev. Dr. J. M. Brittain has decided to resign his position as a teacher in our female college. ~Mr. Augustus Swann has been on a visit to friends and relatives in Conyers for several days past. ~It is said Mr. Geo. Swords, the well known distillery man, of Walton Co., will move here this summer and operate a government distillery somewhere near town. ~Our popular saddle and harness manufacturer, Mr. W. W. Martin, late of Virginia, is turning out some elegant and substantial work from his shop in this city. ~Miss Jeanie Wright, of Covington, is visiting friends and relatives in Augusta, and on Wednesday evening, Mrs. Boykin Wright gave a “progressive hearts” party complimentary to Miss Jeanie, who is quite a favorite in Augusta society. ~Mr. J. W. Worsham left on a visit to Florida Saturday. He got lonesome, the blizzard was approaching so he went down to join his good wife who had been away from him five or six days. May friend James have a pleasant visit and a safe return. ~At the first meeting of the new Board of County Commissioners, on Monday last, Mr. T. C. Swann was elected Chairman, and Col. E. F. Edwards, Clerk. Both are fully competent to discharge the responsible duties of their respective positions. ~Among the pictures of wealthy Kentucky beauties, published in Sunday’s Macon Telegraph, we notice that of Miss Elizabeth Weathers, who spent several weeks last year in Covington as the guest of Miss Annie Pace. The picture, however, is not near so handsome as is the charming Miss “Bettie” herself.
