It was brief, and carried with it a sentiment that the Southern people will never applaud. The people expected mush of the Doctor and in consequence were sorely disappointed. His idea of “luck” may be all right, but his criticism on the cowardice of the Revolutionary Fathers did not meet with the approval of our people. His recital of historical events may be true, his eulogy on Lincoln and Grant may be patriotic, and still, his lecture fell flat on the ears of his hearers. He is a brilliant man and might have given us a lecture that would have been appreciated and applauded; yet, somehow, he did not do it. Doubtless “luck” was against him. Perhaps he had “lamb and onions” for dinner. Who knows? Let us have another lecture on “Lack of Luck with Liberty.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/newton/newspapers/purelype805gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.8 Kb
