L. DAVIS’S chain gang, in this district. ~R?? DICKERSON says that your correspondent from Island Shoals ought not to be so hard on him about his moustache, unless he could support more on a side than he does. ~Miss Jennie Edwards, a very pleasant young lady, who has been spending some time with friends in this district, has returned to her home in south-west Georgia. She made many friends during her visit here. ~Rocky Plains district promises to be a “sweet” section of the county for a long time to come. Besides the many pretty young ladies here, we will turn out several thousand gallons of the sweetest kind of syrup this season. Professor ROBERT W. DAVIS will make over one thousand gallons of as fine syrup as can be found in the market. Like some of the balance of us, the Professor wanders in single wretchedness with “no one to love, none to caress.” ISLAND SHOALS ~Times are extremely dull in this section, with the exception of milling and ginning. Whooping cough and an interesting protracted meeting have managed to keep our people awake for some time past. Mrs. DICKERSON, who has been so near to death’s door, is said to be a little better at this writing. WE saw the Rocky Plains editor pass today. He “grun” a wicked grin and “smole” a 10X15 smile as he crossed the bridge and landed on the same side of the river where lives his lady. We understand he’ll give this deponent “hail Columbia happy land, if it ain’t fun I’d be dog,” about the “widow” item. We know another Henry County love affair, and one bushel of apples is the price of our silence. There is a legend, (of my own manufacture, I’m a licensed legend maker), that Henry and Newton County don’t mix in love affairs, as once they did before Henry refused to advance her part for the new bridge to pay Covington well for her work in securing its erection, and still the wagons pass every day loaded down with the fleecy staple, and every one heading for your town. The many little items in the Enterprise setting forth the advantages of your market has brought trade to Covington and the merchants should not allow your columns to run so short of home advertisements. ~The Eatonton Messenger, speaking in reference to what your correspondent said, concerning Putnam County being in the 8th district, says the writer must be a Putnamite, which is true, and we are proud of it, and we are also pleased to know that old Putnam has as true Democrats as can be found in the State, and when led by such patriotic men as Col. NESBIT, W. F. JENKINS, J. S. RIED and others, Radicalism can secure no hold upon her honored soil.
