The fire is thought to have caught from a defective flue in the chimney, and when discovered the fire was over nearly half of the roof of the building. The school house was an old building and contained two rooms. Prof. J. E. COUEY is principal, and ably assisted by Miss Gladney Thompson. It was for a while that the cotton belonging to Mr. L. A. STARR would be burned up, but by the heroic work on the part of the children and men who had assembled by this time, it was saved.
