W. HAWKINS is visiting relatives in Oglethorpe county. ~Judge A. K. RICHARDSON spent last week with his family here. ~Hon. T. J. SPEER speaks of moving his family to town, a welcome awaits such good people. ~Mrs. A. R. SIMMS and children have been on a pleasant visit to relatives in Greene County. ~Capt. G. D. HEARD and family visited relatives in Walton County last Sunday. ~Elder WM. ADAMS preached a solid sermon at Holly Spring Primitive Baptist Church last Saturday. ~Mrs. FRANKLIN WRIGHT is slowly recovering for a severe spell of fever, to the delight of her many friends and relatives. ~Mr. JAMES T. CORLEY is very feeble owing to a recent attack of nervous prostration, caused by over work on his plantation in the heat and sun. ~We are pleased to learn that Mrs. M. B. FOWLER is recovering from a severe spell of sickness. Hope she will soon be in the best of health again. ~Mr. SAM D. LOTT has moved from South-West Georgia and himself and family will make their home in Covington. ~Mr. EDWARD KING left for Tennessee Monday where he goes to build a new railroad. We shall miss his pleasant face and cheerful conversation. ~Miss JULIA TUCKER, one of Covington’s most popular young ladies, is spending sometime in Arlington as the guest of Miss FANNIE HICKS. ~Prof. H. A. SCOMP desires that the legislature now in session pass an act requiring the teaching in the common schools the effects of alcohol on the human frame. ~Mr. CHARLIE DENNARD spent most of last week visiting his parents in Rockdale County. He reports a pleasant time and says crops look well in our sister county. ~Rev. Dr. J. N. BRADSHAW and wife of Madison, Fla., are spending a few days with friends and dear ones here, as the guests of their children, Mrs. J. J. CORLEY, and Mrs. D. A. THOMPSON. Both are looking well. TOWN AND COUNTY, EVERYTHING AND EVERYBODY ~Dr. JOE MURRELL, of Pennsylvania, is visiting relatives and friends in old Newton. ~Messrs. HENRY and CHARLIE BRITTAIN, of Atlanta, have been on a visit here as the guests of Mr. WILLIE LEE. ~Misses LENA AND LANNA CAMP, two of Covington’s fair daughters, have been visiting friends in Conyers. ~Rev. W. B. BONNELL, former president of the female college, is on a visit from China and will remain in Georgia a month or two.
